The Great Prop Debate

I often get asked if I have cute backdrops, or props for my shoots. I typically answer that I have pretty neutral, tonal, backdrops, and maybe a basket or two, but that I would be more than happy to incorporate anything you would like. It is their shoot after all. My personal preference is to let your shining faces speak for themselves. Every once in awhile it comes together perfectly!! At my newborn shoot yesterday the parents were excited to see that I had a great basket to cradle their little one for shots of her on her own, they were scouring their house for something they could use before I arrived! We had a discussion on props, and I explained my stance and the fact that while something might be perfect for one family it might not *fit* with any others. That’s when grandmom chimed in!! “How about your cowboy boots?” she said. They are apparently a cowboy boot wearing family, a signature if you will! Out came the boots and my mind started to spin!! She slept relatively peacefully while we moved and shifted her around. In the end I think we capture a moment that just speaks “THEM”. I love it!
